Topstak sponsored charity wing walk raises funds for MS

A Topstak sponsored charity wing walk has raised more than £1400 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society

Vicky Jones, from Gower Swansea was diagnosed with the disease six years’ ago, and succeeded in raising both funds and awareness with her wing walk on April 25.

“I was totally delighted and exhilarated with the experience of wing walking,” she says.

“Until my diagnosis I was always a busy person, a 100mph person, now I struggle to get up and dressed and the simplest of tasks takes me so long and tires me greatly. Succeeding in the wing walk feels like such a huge achievement.”

Kath Foot, who runs the south Wales MS Society fundraising group adds:

“Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition, that means it affects your nerves. You get it when your immune system isn’t working properly. Your immune system normally protects you by fighting off infection, but in MS it attacks your nerves by mistake. The symptoms are different in each person, and it is a notoriously difficult disease to diagnose.”

“As there can be relatively little outward indication of MS, it can be easy to underestimate how profoundly this disease affects people. At present, there is no cure for MS, but with increased funds we hope to gain a better understanding of the disease, and ultimately find a cure.”

Adam Pedersen, director of family-run firm Topstak, specialists in wood-burning stoves, kitchens, and high quality outdoor accessories says:

“We were delighted to be able to support this worthwhile cause. It was very brave of Vicky to do a wing walk, and we are full of admiration for her. Our sponsorship means that all the money she raised can now go to the MS Society, thus furthering this worthwhile cause.”
