When relining a chimney above an open fire, fitters need to attach the flexible flue liner to a fireplace gather installed over the fireplace. At Topstak, we offer stock chimney gathers and fireplace register plates, as well as a bespoke fireplace gather service.
In order to ensure the products of combustion from an open flame are collected and directed up the flue, you need to install your choice of suitable chimney gathers prior to relining the chimney.
With Topstak’s help, you can have a fireplace gather designed to your specifications in record time. We craft all of our bespoke chimney gathers to your dimensions on site, in our fully equipped workshop.
Fireplace register plate
When installing a freestanding multifuel or wood burning stove into a fireplace recess, fitters are also required by British Standard to put up a corrosion resistant register plate, if no liner is to be installed. Similarly, a fireplace closure plate is used when a flexible flue liner has been installed inside a chimney.
Fireplace gather and fireplace register plate solutions for relined chimneys
In addition to fitting chimney gathers and a fireplace register plate as part of a new chimney installation, having a fireplace gather is a requirement when relining an existing chimney above an open fire.
According to Building Regulations, it’s a legal requirement for all relining installations in England and Wales to include suitable chimney gathers and fireplace register plate solutions. These measures are put in place to ensure chimney fittings are safe, and are best executed by a HETAS registered installer covered for this type of work.
